How to jpg to png
- Add your JPGs. Drop in one image or a batch of them.
- Convert. PNG is lossless, so there is no quality setting to choose — the output matches the input pixel for pixel.
- Download. Save the converted images individually or as a batch.
Things worth knowing
- Converting to PNG does not restore detail already lost to JPG compression. It preserves exactly what is in the JPG — no more.
- PNG files are usually larger than the JPG they came from, often several times so for photographs. That is the cost of being lossless.
- Converting will not add transparency. The image has no transparent areas to recover; you would need to erase a background in an editor.
Questions
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser using JavaScript, so the file never leaves your device — there is no server to upload to. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
Will converting to PNG improve my image quality?
No. JPG compression discards information permanently, and PNG simply stores what remains without losing anything further. It stops the degradation but cannot reverse it.
Why is the PNG so much bigger?
PNG is lossless, so photographic detail that JPG approximates cheaply has to be stored exactly. Three to five times the size is normal for photographs.
When should I actually use PNG?
When an image will be edited and re-saved repeatedly, when you need transparency, or when it contains sharp-edged content like text, screenshots and diagrams.
