Static vs. dynamic QR codes

This tool generates staticQR codes. Static codes never expire, don't require a subscription, and don't depend on a third-party service to resolve. The trade-off is that you can't change what they point to after printing.

Dynamic QR codes (which this tool does not create) route through a redirect service, so you can change the destination later, but they stop working if the service shuts down. For most personal and small-business use cases, static is the better choice.

Tips for reliable scanning

Keep a quiet zone (white border) of at least 4 modules around the QR code.
Use high contrast between foreground and background, dark-on-light is best.
When adding a logo, use error correction level H (High).
For print, export as SVG for sharp edges at any size.
Test the QR code with multiple devices before publishing or printing.

Error correction levels

QR codes can recover from partial damage or obstruction using Reed-Solomon error correction. There are four levels:

L (Low): ~7% damage recovery. Smallest QR code.
M (Medium): ~15% damage recovery. Good default.
Q (Quartile): ~25% damage recovery.
H (High): ~30% damage recovery. Recommended when adding a logo.
