WebP to JPG Converter

Convert WebP images into JPG, the format every phone, printer, document and upload form accepts. Your browser does the work on your device, so the images are never uploaded. JPG cannot store transparency, so any transparent areas are filled with a background colour: white unless you pick another.

Or paste with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac). Accepts PNG, JPG, JFIF, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF and BMP. Nothing is uploaded.

Lower quality, smaller file. 90% looks unchanged for most photos.

Background for transparent areas
#ffffff

JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with this colour. Default white.

How to convert WebP to JPG

  1. Add your WebP files. Drop them on the box, click Pick files, or paste a copied image with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac).
  2. Set the quality. JPG is already selected. The default of 90% keeps photos visually unchanged in most cases; drop to around 80% if the file must be small.
  3. Choose a background colour. This only matters if the WebP has transparent areas, such as a logo or a cut-out product shot. White is the default; use the colour picker to match wherever the image is going.
  4. Convert and download. Click Convert, check the size before and after, then download each JPG or all of them as a ZIP.

Things worth knowing

  • Transparent and semi-transparent pixels are blended onto the background colour, soft edges included. A cut-out flattened onto white looks clean on a white page but shows a pale fringe on a dark one, so pick the colour of the destination.
  • JPG is lossy, so this conversion loses a little detail on top of whatever the WebP already lost. Stay at 85% or above if the image will be edited again.
  • Animated WebP files become a single still frame, and metadata is not copied across.

Questions people ask

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser decodes and re-encodes each image on your own device, so there is no server to upload to and nothing is stored. The page does fetch extra code from this site the first time you use certain features (the ZIP download, PDF output, a WebP encoder for browsers without one, and the HEIC decoder), but your images are never part of those requests.

Why do transparent areas turn black in other converters?

A transparent pixel is usually stored as black with zero opacity. JPG has no opacity, so a converter that simply drops it leaves black. This tool fills transparent areas with the background colour you choose, white by default, before encoding.

Is JPG or PNG better for a WebP?

JPG for photographs, where it is much smaller. PNG for anything with transparency, text or sharp lines, where JPG blurs edges; the WebP to PNG Converter handles that.

Will the JPG be bigger than the WebP?

Usually, yes. WebP compresses more efficiently, so a JPG of similar visual quality is often a third to a half larger. Lowering the quality closes the gap at the cost of detail.

Can I convert WebP to JPG without losing quality?

Not strictly, because JPG always re-compresses. At 95% the loss is very hard to see. If you need an exact copy, PNG is lossless.

If something goes wrong

There is a halo around a cut-out

The edge pixels were blended onto the background colour. Convert again with a background matching where the image will sit, or keep transparency with PNG.

An upload form still rejects the JPG

Check its size limit and lower the quality. Some forms also cap the width and height in pixels, and this tool does not resize.

Text in the image looks smudged

JPG softens sharp edges. Raise the quality towards 100%, or use PNG for screenshots and diagrams.
